How do you access the buttons above the top LCD?

I find that the strap is blocking the way so I have to use my left hand :evil:

Use a E1 strap on a 20D and have no problem and I have quite large hands

As Doc says, it sounds like you have it too tight. You should be able to move your index finger to the wheel and your thumb to the buttons.

(by the way, Doc, I was a chemistry undergraduate at Imperial College, London, when I fell seriously ill 12 years ago, possibly from exposure to organic lab fumes - I enjoyed your web site)

oh... ok ;)
I set it tight enough so I could feel the strap on my back of my hand... it seems too tight then.
oh well... silly question :)
