Was setup to shoot some sunset shots when a couple walked by and the lady's curls caught my eye. Asked if they would allow me to photograph them, he passed but she jumped in. Had one 580EX II w/stofen and ST-E2 with me so fired off a dozen or so. Not very experienced with this type of shooting so welcome comments and critiques.

A good attempt. I see the color temperature of the light on the woman to be rather cold not at all matching the warm tones of the sunset. I dragged your photo into Lightroom and found +19 color temperature and +17 tint made the first image look "normal" to my eyes.

Nice attempt Patrick. I agree with the color balance being off. Obviously posing is key when shooting portraits. I understand your time constraint, but using this as an example I will say this to think about: If your background is important in your photo, such as this sunset, allow it to have more in the picture. You would do that buy stepping back and framing the subject to the left of right of the picture allowing the sunset to dominate the other side of the frame. Also, unless your subject's appearence has the ability to pull off a tight crop, such as a fashion or beauty shot, standing back would seriously help balance the picture more. You should also try and make sure that your subjects shoulders are straight i.e. the 2nd picture.

Looks like a nice lady with a beautiful sunset. Nice job seeing the opportunity! :)

I'm very grateful for the time y'all took to counsel me on these shots. Appreciate the encouragement and the advice was spot on. Lots more to learn but it helps when there are folks showing me the map.
Yours in pixels,
Pat
