Having a second 5DII was one of the best things I ever did. I used to run with a 5D MKII and 5Dc. I found myself constantly preferring to use the 5D MKII instead of the 5Dc. Resolution and ISO performance being big factors. When I got the second 5D MKII this stopped which mean I shot more rather then looking at my camera to see which body it was.

I agree with mtimber about the upgrade path side of things. I'd sooner have the kit I want now and benefit from it than work up to it slowly. When I bought some of the primes I have I instantly benefited and to a degree improved my portfolio.

Thanks, that's something to consider.

I'm considering some primes as well. I love my 50 1.4 but from what I'm hearing about the 1.2L it is slowly climbing up my list of lenses I really should have.

It is my favourite walk around lens. If I could take just one lens with me when I go travelling it would be this one. Great for stitching too.

24-70 2.8 is perfect for this....in a really dark church you may need even more light then you may need to go to a 1.8 or 1.4 lens 50mm or less.
Don't use a prime unless you have to...if you have to walk up and down the aisle to frame your shot, you are in the way and somebody sooner or later will trip you when you are backing up.
70-200 is not even close to the right lens for that part of the day....especially in a dark church.

I wouldn't really rethink your lens setup. You said that your husband usually has the 24-70 on his camera for the walk up, so those angles should be covered. I understand wanting to be able to get those angles, (my partner and I work the opposite, I have the wide and he takes the telephoto), but you want to keep the variety, at the most I would say maybe switch out lenses with each other for a few weddings.

This is my camera, there are many like it, but this one is mine.

If you did end up buying a 40D or even another 7D, your 24-70 lens would become a 35-105 lens, at a constant f/2.8, on those crop bodies. That's the one thing I miss about owning crop bodies: being able to get a longer zoom without losing any speed. Maybe I'll buy a used 7D as my 2nd camera and use my current 2nd camera (another 5Dc) as my backup. Hmmm.

Check out the Canon Loyalty Program for a 2nd camera, there are some really good deals there! I think the 7D is around $1,160, less than they sell for used..

I don't like the 24-70 on my 5DMKII for some reason. I don't have a problem getting good shots with the 70-200mm I just would like to get more of a variety. I have decided to go with the "wear two bodies" plan. Looking for another 5DMKII now...

Yeah, no, I want it all! I'm gonna get me another camera & put my 24 on it & see how I like that.

No I won't buy a crop, I'm going for another 5D MKII. But my husband will be selling his babied 7D when the 5D MKIII comes out so stay tuned!!

I will, thanks! But I need the funds from selling my 85 1.2 first so go buy!

I'm trying out the 135L in that situation tomorrow.. last wedding I used the 70-200f/2.8is, I think I'm going to ditch the 70-200 for the 135 depending on tomorrow's results :)

This has to rank as one of the most off topic threads I've seen in a long time.

The OP asked about a walk down the aisle lens and it turned into having a backup body. As if she didn't know she needs one without you guys telling her. What a waste.

BTW, Michele, did you get the elusive 5DIII yet?

Mark

i rock the 70-200 v2 and (i did) the 24-70. bodies were 1d4 and 5d3 depending on how LONG the aisle walk was. If it was super long, i'd put the 24-70 on the 5d3, if t was short, i'd flip it around.

i sold the 24-70 so i may do the 35L on one and still the v2 on the other. I try to take AS MANY shots as humanly possible. i have the memory to save it, and i'll go through them later, but that once in a lifetime moment i don't want to miss. the 1d4 paired w/ the v2 also has killer AF and it hardly mis-focuses even with strong backlight.
