Well, The Wife surprised me with an early birthday present yesterday--a brand-new 7D. To say it was unexpected is an understatement. Now I've got a visible light camera of my own again, and don't have to borrow The Wife's. ;)

It's going to take some getting used to, learning how this 7D works with all the whistles and bells. My first DSLR was a Rebel XTi, and when I'm second shooting for The Wife, I use her 50D. The controls are all rearranged and the 7D feels like some high performance jet with all the liquid crystal overlays and virtual horizons and such. But it feels good in my hand and takes some pretty nice images. I suspect the other stuff will become less mysterious in time.

Our anniversary and my birthday have resulted in two really awesome gifts from her now. I can't wait to see what she's got in mind for Christmas!

Heh. I'd like to get her the EF 24-70 2.8 L. The trouble is I don't have that kind of money. Confession time: Most of the nifty equipment in my sig is actually hers, but she lets me use it. Since she went full-time with her photography business, she's had the income to re-invest in pricey gear.

Although this is my first camera since I bought that little XTi all those years ago, she's not being entirely altruistic. She's gonna put that 7D to work, oh yes. No free rides for camera equipment around here! ;)

I dunno about that, rxjohn. She's become quite the FF snob with her 5DII. More likely she send me out on more solo shoots. Which kinda sucks because I she pays me no salary, but the upside is she buys me stuff like the 7D. :D

And SEC, yeah. Good move. The only option, really, but I gotta confess I miss the old SWC.

Congrats on the camera. You are a lucky man! I would hold off on the 24-70 for now though as a new one has been rumored for awhile and the existing lens can be soft depending on your copy.
