I think it would be tough to carry a larger tripod on a small backpack! I have an OLD set of 055pro size legs and it carries fine on my NatureTrecker AW bag but is way too top heavy on my Rover AWII. The 055 line is not a "light" tripod!

The Fastpack 300 will hold the 055pro for sure.

I use the Fastpack 300 and hawl my 055pro with the 498RC2 head.

The only thing I would say I don't like is that even with the tripod strap on the back of the bag, it tends to sway a bit. I sometimes use the strap that goes around you stomach as an extra strap for the top of the tripod.

If you are going on a long hike I would just recommend getting an extra velcro strap...looping it through the top handle of the case for support, and then around the top end of the tripod. That will stop it from moving at all.

All in all the weight is not that bad, but I am a big guy so I won't say it may or may not be too big for you. Hope this helps out some! :)

Im using a Flipside 200, holding a 190XProb with 498RC2. It's a bit top heavy so I velcro the top handle of the bag to the ballhead, just stability.

I use a 055xprob with amedium head.. And I must say, sticking it to my new flipside400aw doesnt feel as right as I thought it would.. As mentioned it sways a bit, a tighter fit would be desired.

With that said, the tripod is kind of heavy, and not all of the leg tips will fit in the small pull out pouch. This might be the problem, however I think LowePro could have come up with a better sollution to a bagseries this pricey.

I believe the pouch on the back that holds the tripod legs is designed in such a manner that only 2/3 of the legs fit inside of the pouch, as the rest remain outside.

Perhaps they are meant to have all three and we are just using too large of a tripod for this particular bag, however the pouch is small enough that in order to fit all three legs into it, you would have to own a tripod with some pretty small legs.

The only thing I wish that Lowpro did was add a strap to strap the top end of the tripod to the bag since, as you mentioned, it tends to move around a bit if you don't secure it!

Yeah, it might be meant to hold only 2 leg tips.. Haven't hade alot of time to do testing, but this was one of the first things I noticed on the bag, and it is kind of bad not having another strap or something.

I think I'd perfer putting the tripod underneath the bag in 2 loop straps, that feels like a better way to do it.

My Giottos is around the same size as either the 190XPROB or 055XPROB, I forget which, and although my Flipside 300 will hold it it's not the most brilliant feeling in the world. The strap is about half way up the legs and they stick out a lot, I can't count the number of people I was close to knocking out with it when turning around.

Here is how I secure my tripod. Doesn't move an inch when secured with the strap up top. I attached it to the handle up the top for hanging the bag, I presume that the handle is designed to hold up the bag, so it the weight of the tripod should be ok.
