I'm in the market for a viewfinder attachment but I'm very much against gluing anything to my beloved 7D. The Zacuto doesn't appear to require gluing anything to the body, but most others, like the LCDVF, do. Am I reading the ad copy wrong? Does anybody else have reservations about permanently attaching stuff to their cameras? The posts I've read on the subject don't even mention this issue. Am I overreacting?

Step 1: Buy a screen protector
Step 2: Glue it to the screen protector instead of the actual screen
Step 3: Rejoice

I have the Jag Monitor X that does come with some adhesive parts, but they do a Zacuto adapter so I could buy the Gorilla plate and the frame, plus this adapter and hey presto!

I recently purchased this http://www.amazon.com …keywords=Z+finder&x=0&y=0 (external link) and love it. The magnetic plate has a minimal amount of sticky tape. I did have a protective cover on the screen, however when sticking the plate on the cover, the cover pulls up when taking the finder off the screen. Air bubbles come in and my OCD kicks in, swearing ensues.

I too was afraid of having adhesive on the screen but it was worth the try because I was tired of the cover pulling up. Come to find out, having it on the screen is no big deal. I had to take the magnetic plate off to center it better and it left no marks at all. I was able to cut the screen protector down to size to fit on the screen without the plate touching it.

Also $40 bucks for a zfinder that gets the job done and works GREAT was a steal.

Thanks for the input, all. Still haven't decided between the LCVF and the Zacuto, but it doesn't look like my decision will be made by how they mount to the camera.

The LCDVF mounting frame comes off without any residue if you need to remove it. I have one and the viewfinder is really nice and the frame is really discreet.

Step 4: Watch the mounting frame, viewfinder and screen protector fall to the floor because the protector couldn't handle the weight.

I wasn't referring to the plastic clip-on type of screen protector, figured that was quite obvious... apparently not.

A universal adhesive-backed cut to size screen protector won't just "fall off".

It can and it has.

the adhesive-backed (Zagg and the like) might last for a while, but the standard thick-plastic static-cling, definitely not.

Sounds like some people need to invest in better quality screen protectors with some decent adhesive then. I've never had a protector show any signs of the adhesive failing, though I do take all proper measures to make sure it adhers fully (ie, cleaning the screen with alcohol prior to applying the adhesive backed protector.). Honestly though, I am looking at the protectors on my cameras right now, the thought of the entire strip of adhesive(roughly a 3x3'' area) instantly coming lose and inadvertantly causing my LCDVF to fall to the floor seems a little silly. Wouldn't there be some warning signs before something like this happened? Like the edges starting to lose adhesion perhaps?

Besides, if your so worried about adhesive failing, why would you even consider the LCDVF's adhesive backed bracket? The bracket's surface area of adherence looks to be about 95% less than that of an entire screen protector. Just saying.
