Hello,

I have a silly question. Has anyone use a 1d for their trip to Montreal? My friend let me borrow his 1d mk3. He told me it will be better than my 7D. Or 7d, will be just fine.

cheers.

Lucky that your friend is letting you use his 1D mk3 like that. Go visit Old Montreal, and on a nice day there is lots to see on Mount Royal...I miss home lol

If you plan to shoot a sports event in Montreal it could make a difference.
But much more interesting are the lenses for this trip...

And if you would ask me, i would go with the lighter/smaller camera, the 7D. When we go for a city trip, it is a lot of walking and sightseeing, so size and weight could make a difference...

Cheers

If you are used to your 7D and not used to the 1d then I suspect you'll do better with the 7D

But then again, there's nothing wrong with shooting landscapes at 10 fps. Take it and have fun! One full battery should last for the whole trip, which is a nice perq. And you can club muggers with the camera if you need to, so there's that advantage as well.

Depending when you are coming there are lots of things to shoot.
Later this month there are the Tall ships and the Chinese Lantern Display at the Botanical Gardens should be opening up soon.
Old Montreal is always great no matter what type of camera you have.
Panoramic shots from the lookout on Mount Royal, China Town, the list is endless.
If you let me know when you are coming I can give you a list of the things happening at that time and some idea's of locations.

It is more important which lens you will bring to Montreal.
UWA is a must.

I also recommend to bring one fast prime like 50 mm or wider for evening events.

You might get away with using a 7D in Quebec City or Sherbrooke.. But you definitely need the 1D MkIII for Montreal.

No kidding. The language cops will seize your camera and you may never get it back.

Thanks for your inputs. I think I will be bringing the 7D because my bag will not take the 1d :( Also, will borrow a UWA lens from my friend.

Cheers!

The 7D will be just fine, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Might want to bring a monopod for the lowlight shooting, like the underground mall. :)
