I'm trying to get into shooting flash off shoe. I'm shooting with an XT with a 430 EX flash unit. As a starter, I was looking at this trigger unit on amazon as I've read great things about them on here.

I was wondering, is this all I need to tripper the flash? Or will I still need two of these because my camera and flash unit lacks a PC ports.

I'll also be picking up a stand, umbrella and umbrella swivel adapter. I hope this is all that I need.

Thank you all in advance!

You are on the right track. I the RF-603 \ 604, Phottix Stratto, Cactus, Camera Dojo Ninja (http://shop.cameradojo.com (external link)), iShoot PT-04, and the NPT-04 are good, inexpensive, beginner choices that I know of. I think the Ninja triggers are re-branded PT-04s.

I probably would have bought the Ninja triggers, just because David Ziser gave them a favorable review, but I happened across a good deal on the NPT-04 triggers and went with it. I haven't had any problems with them so far.

I bought some hotshoes with the sync port from FlashZebra.com, instead of the hotshoe adapters, for my two 580 EX flashes, and I'm really glad I did. I know the 480 EX can have a sync port added, and if you talk to FlashZeba, they may do it for you. If not, there are DIY guides on the internet.

Does anyone know the differences between the NPT-04 and PT-04 flash triggers?

Looks to me like a pair of those triggers/receivers is all you need. Put the transmitter in your hot shoe. Attach the receiver to your umbrella adapter and put the flash in the hot shoe.

If you have any questions, shoot Lon an email at flashzebra. He is one of the good guys (and a long standing forum member) and will give you a straight answer.

Thank you! I'll do a little more research on the ones you listed before pulling the trigger on a set. THanks!

That's what I was assuming too. Thanks! I'll shoot Lon an email.
