Correction: It would mimic an f4-5.6 zoom on a m43 or an f5.6-8 on an APS-C. The 2/3" is ~4x crop, IIRC.

technically, you are right.

However, given the slight extra reach of the x10, it would have a little more bg blur at the long end vs the kit lenses on either. the x10 is 28.4mm f2.8 at the long end which gives just over 10mm aperture. That's bigger than 55mm f5.6 or 42mm f5.6. In my experience, the physical aperture size is a great predictor of bg blur regardless of sensor size. At the wide end, you are right, but honestly none of these kit lenses on any camera has much DOF control unless you get close with the lens near full zoom. The x10 (and Oly XZ-1) should be at least as good as the kit lenses there.

I will say that video sure makes it look cool. Pretty much exactly what I am looking for.

The whole thing hinges on the quality of the OVF in my book. I'm sure IQ will be slightly ahead of the G12/S95, but not dramatically...but if that OVF is actually usable (as opposed to the G12's) this thing becomes very, very appealing. 85% coverage is obviously not good, but if it isn't like looking down a straw, it'll be an improvement.

The (other cameras') 720p vs (X10's) 1080p video comparison looks interesting though. The 720p footage looked completely out of focus, while their own 1080p looked crisp and clear. Shaking my head Fuji.

I wonder if there is any information overlay of some sort unlike the ones in G12? That will make it at least useful.

2 things I really like over other p/s. 1 I always hate zooming with that little dial and I like at least some sort of viewfinder. I like the size and style as well. I must admit the retro looking camera thing is cool.

I don't think this has been posted yet...

$699?!

http://www.adorama.com …er&utm_source=rflaid63773 (external link)

EDIT: That's over half the price of the X100 :( I would almost rather shell out more for an X100 at that price.

this promo video has me reaching for my credit card. I'm in love.

I may be right behind you in line....I leica that Fuji. Remains to be seen if it is significantly better than the current top of the class P&S options though. For $700 it has to do more than look pretty, it really needs to break away from the pack. If it does then I have no issue with the price point.

Oh, Lordy...this is awful! First, I went ape over the X100 and waited and waited and waited..the reviews came in, the price shot up...I decide no likey any more.

Now, I'm going ape on the X10 but not until I cancelled my order for Fuji's 600EXR superzoom. I swear, who knew Fuji could produce such exciting stuff? I used to love their little compacts way back when but now they are really finding their niche. Please, Fuji..make the x10 just as good as I hope it'll be, oh please...

Toddling off to find a soothing tea now...must be calm...release date is November...

Notice this disclaimer on that page at adorama:

" Please note: the price of 699.95 is not final. We will adjust your order to the actual price."

I am hoping for a price close to $500, but that might be dreaming. I think Fuji might be hoping the coolness and classic factor will support a high price as it has with the X100.

^ With the G12 (probably X10's closest competitor) selling around $450-480, I doubt this will be priced at $500. Slightly bigger sensor, OVF with a slightly wider coverage, all-metal body, $600 sounds like a safe pricing for Fuji.

Only 6 megapixels of detail because of the unconventional sensor. :(

6MP on high DR or low noise mode. 12MP otherwise.
