And they offered to pay for it ......

Shock Horror!

I make a significant percentage of my income from photography and occasionally roll my eyes at posts where people are giving images away and undercutting working photographers who are carrying all the overheads, but out of the blue today I received an email from the media company that put together the Legion Magazine (external link) which is the magazine published by The Royal British Legion (external link) which is the UK charity which supports both serving and veteran members of the armed forces.

I took the picture during a visit to the National Memorial Arboretum which is a memorial dedicated to all members of the armed services who have given the ultimate sacrifice, all their names a carved into the walls.

There are many good friends and ex comrades listed on those walls and even though I was asked what my rate for an editorial one time usage and full page interior would be, I have given the licence gratis.

Sometimes it is not about money.

This is the image.

More heart than a wallet. Good for you for helping a charity out, especially one as worthy as The British Royal Legion!

Image is good too!

Nicely done. Both the image itself and the decision to give them the use of your image.

Well done Neil. Those that serve our countries should always get a free pass from those they serve and protect. I would have done the exact same thing:cool:

Can't imagine who would be low enough to question your actions on this, but I am sure that there are several of the chest thumpers just waiting for the opportune moment to pounce. A tip of the hat to you sir for doing what makes you happy!

Great decision Neil. I admire you and your honesty.

There are too many money-hungry people in this world as of today and sometimes it's not about the money and this is definitely one of those cases.
