My intention was to overpower the sun, but this is as far as I could get with a single 580EXII. However I quite like the result I ended up with. It might be a bit underexposed, but I like the dark effect.

Was it bare? I can overpower the sun with a bare 430 ex, so the 580 should be 2/3 stop more light.

Yes it was bare, but I used the wide angle diffuser for a wider light spread. 24mm was to narrow to light the scene. That might explain the loss of power. And it wasn't completely overcast aswell.

I like it slightly dark as well but not when the subject is. The subject should pop. You can go back and correct that in photoshop easily.
