Going the Mac route you get the best of both worlds bc they run FCP AND Premiere.
I can see the logic in that but with FCPX not being backwards compatible, that seems less of a factor. Most of the FCP users I know that have switched to Premiere have no use for FCPX since Premiere will read their old files and FCPX won't. The only reasons I could see for keeping two NLE's on your computer is for comparability with old work or if one did somethign drastically different than the other . I think Apple really dropped the ball on this one. I was just at a FCP users group meeting and it seems like most of the group is switching. Granted, the meeting was hosted by Adobe, but the group has been intact for awhile and were annoyed by FCPX long before the meeting at Adobe.
In a bit of a contradiction, I use Premiere and Sony Vegas. I mostly use Premiere these days, but Vegas works better for me when I need to do intensive audio editing without jumping to another program. IMO, Vegas is superior to Premiere and FCP when it comes to in-NLE audio editing.
