Coming through the merchant lines is this Off-Camera Cord, with several useful added features. Pricing is unknown at present.

The basic kit (PF801 – Canon) comes with a 0.3/1ft, 2m/6ft or 4m/12ft cable. Extra Pixel cables come in 2, 3, 5, 8 and 10m lengths. Also available are extra VS-801flash shoes.(The Nikon version is VM802.)

Mount the VS801 on the camera and plug the cable into the right (C) socket. Connect the other end to the VM801, mount the Speedlite, and turn on. Switch on C, and move the TTL switch to C also. Confirm that it all works by calling up the Flash Control Menus on your camera to check settings.

There are 3 line switches and 1 TTL switch. A or C can be switched to TTL mode.
A On/Off TTL on/Manual
B On/Off Manual/Manual
C On/Off Manual/TTL on

This provides a mixed ETTL/Manual sync. Having only one set, we have been unable to test whether a second cable can be piggy-backed to extend the Manual lines.

A standard 6-wire straight-through Ethernet can be used. I have a 10m one for use as Syl Arena describes. A 0.5m one suits an on-camera flash bracket.

With the ability to connect by cable to a Master at that distance means that the Componor is a worthwhile backup system to the Pixel King wireless system. In fact, is adds in A:B ratios, as well as full FCM control of the lighting, so both systems work in exactly the same way. I’m in.

Looks like Pixel made another innovative product.
For myself I don't see any advantages because I use the SU-900 Speedlight controller unit so everything is wireless here. But for some situations where the only connection can be made only via cable this product seems fine.

Are these standard RJ-45 ethernet cables and ports?

Unless Nikon developed and released a product I didn't hear about, there is no SU-900. Do you mean SU-800? or SB-900? ;)

Much of Syl Arena's "Speedliter's Handbook" uses a 10m cable, as do his courses. For me, it makes a great backup, which works in precisely the same way as the King triggers. Convenient. And no flat batteries. My photography is all off-site, so this is important.

The Pixel cables are high-quality flat ones; very neat and easy to tape to floor. But I'm using standard straight-through ethernet cables from my computer box. Out goes the OC-E2 1ft cable with its damnable coils.

It's retail-ready now, and just a matter of coming through the merchant chains.

Very cool find Clive!

Any idea who will be distributing these in NZ?

I remember more than several years ago many of us tried something similar by extending the Canon cable.
I think Duncan was the only person to make it work properly, using RJ45s and ethernet cable.
I know mine doesn't work, the plugs don't offer a solid connection for the ground wire.

Hi, Moppie. I remember the flurry of DIY projects, but never got around to trying for myself. Duncan has the experience to succeed!

Some-one asked about 3x 430s on a bracket, and how to trigger them. He has PWs like the new Opas triggers, so I tested - it works fine. 50D -> Opas -> Opas -> Componor -> 3 cables and flash ends (I'll buy 2 more they're cheap enough). Flashes on Manual.

I can see an accumulation of cables of many lengths - 0.3m to 10m. I wouldn't go much longer as there is an RF problem that stopped Canon from getting their cords licenced in USA.

Thanks to this thread, I purchased the Componor and it worked like a charm!! I just needed to replace my OC-E3 cable with something more flexible in distance and this totally fits the bill. The best part is the flash mount shoe has a lock, which most of other cables do not.

Bumping this thread with a question :)

i am about to buy this set for me. can you tell me guys if its working with YN 565?
also another important thing. can i use a flash shoe from this kit in manual mode to trigger a YN rf-603? (so it will trigger some other flashes in manual mode)

I'm bumping this thread again with another question :)

I was looking at the Componor on Amazon. It's under this link: http://www.amazon.com …5HTR7U0/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_i (external link)

I read one of the reviews for that product, stating:

"The one problem I had with it is that it is NOT compatible with all Cat 5 cables. While testing the unit I found that it worked as advertised with the supplied 6ft cable. But when I started using longer network cables, the flash fired but the exposures were way off. So I started trying lots of cables and finally found a few that worked, including one that is 50ft long.

So then I started wondering if there are variations in how Cat 5 cables are set up. There is no way to tell by looking at them so I bought a cheap cable tester and discovered that the cables that work appear to not have terminals 1 and 8 connected -- the tester showed only six green lights, with 1 and 8 dark. The cables that did NOT work correctly tested with green lights for all eight terminals."

So I am asking is there anything I should look out for when purchasing a Cat 5 network cable? I'd like to used the cable with my laptop once in awhile but I am unsure if having terminals 1 and 8 disconnected will render the cable unusable for wired web connectivity.
