site review critique

hey guys, i have been fiddling with wordpress and would like some feedback from you guys. please visit my site www.matterandmovement.​com and let me know what you think of both my work and the site. it is a blog style site but i dont create nearly enough content to fill it like i should, but hopefully that will change.

can you guys also give me some ideas on how to market myself more? i have not embraced facebook and maybe that is hindering me but id like to know what you guys do to promote yourselves. thanks.

I think you need to define what you're trying to do first. Are you trying to sell prints to clients, or use the site as a portfolio to generate business, or write a blog?

You're definitely right about not using facebook being a hinderance, I don't know why anyone would turn down that advertising channel. Though I would wait until you have the website worked out until you start using facebook.

You shouldn't have color in your watermarks, I've noticed the ampersand causing color shifts in some of the photos (the ballet ones).

Your header / logo banner is not working well.. You need a black version, or something that integrates more with the site.

I like the Christina set, nice job.

• I think your layout could be more efficient, instead of having all the photos in one page (even though they are thumbnails), you could use excerpt and it would greatly decrease the number of objects you're trying to load.
  
  
• Also consider using lightbox instead of individual pages to view the photos. Generally, when people have to keep on clicking back to view photos, it can get annoying, specially since you post a lot of photos.
  
  
• The banner doesn't fit the theme. You have a completely white banner and a dark theme...it looks amateur.
  
  
• Perhaps making your watermark smaller? I know the purpose, but if someone wants to steal your images, they will. Regardless of how big your watermark is.
  

thanks for the feedback! i have made some improvements based on the feedback, it is more cohesive now, i still dont know how to set up light boxes for this wordpress theme but it is a definite function i am trying to add, i agree navigating the pics can be cumbersome as it is currently. thanks for the compliments and feedback.
