The 2x III is sharper then the 2x II, and has quicker AF I believe... With the 1.4x TC's, the difference is less, if at all between the two.

I'm looking at buying a 200 2.8 ii but wanted to use an extender with this lens as well as my 24-105. But, I cant find anywhere that says the ext 2 iii will work with the 24-105 or not.

It will not work with the 24-105... The Canon ones, at least. Third party ones will.

The Canon extenders have a baffle that extends into the lenses, and can only be used with EF telephotos primes and 70-200 zooms.

Thanks. Just wondering why you own a 24-105 considering your other lenses.

I used to have the Canon 2 x Mk2 and traded it for a Mk3. On my lenses (70-200 F2.8IS, 300 F4 IS + 600 F4IS) the Mk3 is significantly better, giving better contrast, sharpness and colour in my opinion. The difference is not dramatic but it does give a higher "Keeper" rate.
The Canon extenders will only work with "L" primes longer than 135mm and only "L" 70-200 (F4 + F2.8) and 100-400 zoom lenses according to my Canon EOS magazine.

Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).

In the 2x, go with the III.

Spending less...

But the III is worth the extra money. Traded my II in for a III and see a massive improvement in IQ...

The 2X III has SLOWER AF than the Mark II. This was done to improve AF accuracy, according to the real Chuck Westfall.

Personally, the Version III already shows up all the deficiencies of a lens, so it makes sense to go with that if pixel peeping is important.

It works fine with the new Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 OS.
