I recently returned from a vacation in NC/SC, in which of course, I took my camera. The outside temperature reached high 80s and high humidity and often, we were indoors with A/C. One morning as we were leaving the house, I stopped to take a shot of a bee within flowering bush. Looking through the viewfinder, I noticed the lens had fogged up due to being indoors, then hitting the outdoors. Therefore, I pondered the concern of changing temperatures and if it will harm the camera. Anyone know?

Thanks

I put my camera/lens in a zip lock bag when going from cold to hot or hot to cold and allow it to acclimatize. It should help avoid condensation.

I had the same problem. I went to a friends beach house in North Carolina. I would step from the airconditioned house to the deck for a quick sunset photo and the lense would fog so bad I could not see a thing. So instead of wiping the lense and risking getting it covered with streaks I just gave up.

windpig can you elaborate more on your zip lock bag plan? How long do you wait to open the bag? Does the bag fill with condensation get the camera wet?

Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

Vinnie, don't put too many onions in the sauce

Going from cold to warm, I'd zip lock it. Going from warm, humid air to cool air conditioning, let the camera acclimate without a bag. If you trap warm, moist air and cool it, it becomes saturated; not good. If you trap cold, humid air and warm it, the humidity decreases; that's good.

Cold air can be saturated also, i.e., high relative humidity (think clouds in winter). Warming that parcel of air decreases its relative humidity.
