Contemplating

Here is my story. I have a 5dmk2 and a 50mm 1.4. I'm hoping to get a 135 f2 or 35 f1.4. Im starting to shoot more portraits and people.

The 35 could be an awesome walk around lens but is it ideal for portraits? Also, the 135 is a few hundreds cheaper.

The 35 is a great lens. You've got the 50 which is very good for portraits/people - I'm wondering why you need the 35?

If i were into portraiture and had ample space such as out side I would go for the 135mm f/2 L the results are amazing. If you need to get a little closer I would use the 50mm , the 35mm has a pretty good amount of distortion that you will have to fix in post. I think the 35mm f/1.4 would be a good walk around lens

Sorry, but - nice as it may be as a walk-around lens and for other things - the 35mm really isn't very widely usable as a portrait lens.

If it were me, I'd get the 135/2 first... And/or an 85/1.8.

Then those portrait lenses could help earn the funds to buy the walk-around lens.
