does anyone have any experience with these? you know the ones from hong kong that you can get with two knock-off batteries for like $50? i know it seems silly to skimp on a grip for a $2000+ camera, but just wondered if anyone had any experience using one of these?

the grip lived on my xsi, but i found i often didn't use the grip when i had my 5dc, that's why i'm hesitant to spend the money for the actual canon one.

also, is there any concerns with using off-brand batteries? what's this 'decoded' business i see?

thanks!

IMO the last thing you want is some shotty Chinese POS made in a sweatshop by a 12 year old to fry your camera due to cheap electronics. I have the same opinion re: batteries.

Glad I got that off my chest.

good point. i'm definitely apprehensive. i should buy the legit grip and use it full-time. i do more than half my shooting in portrait orientation.

IMO that answers your (and everyone else's) question on these matters.
