What would you consider to be the best job(s) to compliment your photography business during slow times or until you are generating enough income to make photography you full-time job?
Factors: Income, travel, flexible schedule, etc.

If you are knowledgeable enough, then you should conduct workshops.

I sell cameras. It's easy for me and I get a solid discount.

Marketing. Get out there & sell yourself! There's more than just one type of photography. ;)

Couldn't agree more. If one is thinking about making this a full time thing then you can't spend enough time marketing. I'm not talking about sitting in front of the computer doing Facebook and similar kind of updates, I'm talking about going out and hitting the bricks and doing some door knocking. IMO, there is nothing quite like face to face marketing. It holds way more punch than someone browsing through your website.

If you want to generate additional income and not have it interfere with your photography it almost has to be something like Sue is suggesting where you are still self employed. I would think that any kind of work you take working for someone else has the opportunity to get in the way. What happens if you are working at company "X" and someone calls for a job tomorrow.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Marketing is probably one of the best pieces of advice so far. Here's a link about a similar topic but for musicians; I think these same ideas apply, however.

I used to wait tables. Although the pay sucks and it makes you a bitter person and dislike the general public, it did help overcome shyness, taught me a bit about selling/marketing, and gave me insight into the mindset of people.

Some really interesting ideas, and worth visiting if just for inspiration . . .

I think you should take whatever work you can get in this economy. Marketing yourself is good, but you gotta pay the bills in the meantime and marketing only does that if it results in bookings. You need a job for the income until the marketing pays off.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)
