580 Not Communicating w/Camera?

I was shooting a wedding yesterday and one of my 580's wigged out. In ETTL, it seems like it does full dumps, but does not sync with the shutter at all; in manual, it still only does full dumps but it does sync.

This camera is back from Canon service to have them replace a loose foot plus address a similar but different communication problem. I'm leaving for another wedding in a few hours; I can only assume there's no hope for this flash and Canon service is the only answer?

Just a shot in the dark, but did you try removing the (2?) screws on the shoe on the top of your body, disassemble, and reassemble? The only times I have had problems with my 580s is when the fault was on the camera, that usually fixed it for me.

Thanks. I usually don't open stuff up, but I'll do a little poking around.

BTW, I should say that I've cleaned the contacts which I know can sometimes be the problem. The reality is, in M, it does full dumps no matter what the power level while just handholding the flash.

And having opened it up, all the connections appear to be solid and there's no change.

Definitely the 580 then, I must've misread this from your first post.

Which body did it not work, or did another work on the camera, maybe the springs on the hotshoe.
