Do I need to protect tripod legs at the beach?

I would think you would need to cover your tripod legs to protect them from the salt water and sand when shooting at the beach. Do they sell something to protect the legs or is it even necessary if you rinse the water/sand off when you are done? I have the Manfrotto 190CSPRO3. Thanks!

Thoroughly rinse it off with fresh water and you are good

I saw someone on here mention that the plastic umbrella bags that you find at the entrance to some stores work really well. Just get one for each leg and use a twist tie or something to hold them on.

This is what I did. It's not sand on the legs, it's sand that gets into the locks. My twist locks are lubricated with a thick silicone grease, and any small particles of sand or grit stick like flypaper.

The lower legs were not dropping easily after a beach visit and the locks were actually grinding. I had to take apart the lower leg sections on my Feisol, clean off the grease and sand, wash the collets and reassembe them. Pain in the butt. The above plastic sleeves will prevent that.

I hold mine up so it never touches the sand.

I rinse it off with fresh water, works good.

In all my years of shooting, I have yet to see a single photographer with any kind of plastic sleeve wrapped around the tripod legs, and there's probably a very good reason for that. Just sayin'...

...and yes, a fresh water rinse is all that's needed.
