How to sort images by time captured in Bridge

Hi; I just got my new iMac back after having the data from my PC transferred to it, and wow, am I in for it...nothing looks like I am used to, including my views in Photoshop & Bridge. What I am trying to figure out right now is how to get my images in Bridge to sort according to the time captured. that isn't one of the options when I look at the Sort menu. Can anyone help?

View > Sort > By Date Created.

By Date Created will sort by Date AND time.

Now I've run into another problem; I processed my first image, flattened the layers, went to Save As, and when I died to save it got a message that it could not be saved because "write access was not granted"...got any idea what that means? I did a search & have not found a solution yet or a cause.

It sounds like you a permissions issue.

By any chance, are you saving it to an external drive? If so, it sounds like your external drive is formatted in NTFS, which OSX is unable to write to, however it can read from it.

You either need to reformat that drive to OSX Journaled OR get one of the few small apps that will allow OSX to read/write to NTFS drives.

Yes, I am trying to save it to an external drive. Any idea how I would see how to reformat it? Failing that, how would I find an ap like you describe! Thanks so much! I didn't even consider the external drive as an issue since it seemed to work with the iMac as soon as I plugged it in.

Well I just did a search on how to reformat the drive & it says all the data will be lost when you do that, so I'll have to see about getting someone to do that for me since I don't have another way to back up all the data...I hate changes! I know I"ll love this iMac once I get everything working & understand it better but what a pain in the patootie the learning curve is!

You can first start by ensuring it is formatted in NTFS currently. To do that you would:

Right click on the drive name > Select "Get Info"

Under there you sill see "Format:" and what it was formatted in?

If it is indeed NTFS, and you want to reformat to Mac OS Journaled, then you would go to:

Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility

You will see the drive in there and when highlighted you can click the "Erase" tab, select the MacOS Journaled and click Erase and voila!

Just ensure everything you need on there has been backed up first!

Michelle, if there's room on your internal drive, I'd copy things over and then do the format! Then, when the formatting is done, you'll be able to write to your external drive so you can just copy them back! Of course, test things out to make sure that Photoshop can make the save!

I appreciate the help, guys, I am just so lost on this iMac I'm not sure what's available as far as backing up. I know there;s this Time Machine thing? Is that like the hard drive? Haven't has any time to investigate this much since the Apple store had the computer doing the transfer.

Ok did the Get info check and yes, it is NTSF> Now going to see if I can figure out how to back up my images...this is scary.

Don't format the disk, you just need to change the permissions. Find the disk in windows explorer, right click, choose properties. Go into security and poke around until you find the "take ownership" button. You might have to grant full permissions to your new user too.

It's really easy but can be a bit fiddly, and hard to describe. If you can show someone who knows a little about PCs near you that's easier than online.

Tim, are you talking about something she can do on her Mac, or are you saying move the hard drive back to her PC and do the permissions thing and that it will work on her Mac to write to the NTFS drive?

I myself don't have the foggiest because I don't have a Mac!

Oh I didn't see the mac bit. It'll have to be done from the mac. The principle will be the same. Formatting shouldn't be necessary, but may be easier.

Didn't far with that. I did find the Sharing and Permissions in the external drive info, but it reads You can only read" and there is no way to choose another option. So I went into the system information for the iMac, looked in Security but there was nothing about permissions or sharing. I did do a search on how to change the sharing and permission on a FreeAgent External drive & what I found says I need to back up my data on the external drive first..
