Hi.

I got my Nissin Di866mkII a while a go and have been using it mostly in manual mode.

However, I wanted to try the TTL mode yesterday and just can't get it right. The camera and flash can communicate and the flash goes off when I shoot, but the TTL metering seems wierd. If I set the camera to Tv and say 1/125 and half press the shutter button the aperture blinks at 1.8 (max for the lens) as if the image will be very under exposed, and when I take the shot it is in fact not underexposed at all. If I set the camera to "P" mode it will set the f/1.8 and a 1'' time, and no flash. If I set the camera to Av and f/1.8 I get times around 1'' aswell but with flash and overexposured.

With the flash in "A" it works, but uses the flash built in meter, not the TTL from the camera.

Also, shouldn't there be a preflash when in TTL mode? There isn't.

I've tried cleaning all contacts but no difference. This is my first flash, so excuse me if I'm beeing a total noob.

Is there anything else I should try, or should I send it back to China from Sweden for a repair? Is it even malfunctioning or am I just not getting it?

All help is appreciated, and I tried looking in the FAQ's but didn't seem to find a sollution.

Kind regards, Anton.

Anton,, I have a Di866 also..

In TTL I find this flash underexposes unless I'm less than two or three metres from the subject. This is also common with my two 430EX and the 580EX I once had. I just don't like TTL.

With my Di866 I only use the aperture priority setting when I need auto exposure. It's kind of primative compared to TTL but it works.

May I also suggest you set your camera to manual mode when shooting with flash for more consistant results.

Thanks.. Yes I shoot manual most of the time, I just wanted to see how ttl and "Tv" or "Av" works.

However, can you access the CFn menu for the flash via your camera? Mine says that the flash is incompatible, should it be like that?
