After 3 years of going out shooting every weekend, I finally found one!

The Kermodei bear is a black bear that has white fur due to a recessive gene carried by black bears in this region of Northern BC. They are pretty rare and hard to find, I've been hearing about this guy for a long time but never spotted him until today.

More pics on my Flickr if you're interested. Thanks for looking! :)

May I be the first to congratulate you on your find and your quest. The first pic is AWESOME and I hope it finds a place on your wall. Please don't quit looking because these bears are awesome, someday I hope to try and photograph these beauties as well. Keep the photos coming, because I am not sure how many people know just how rare these bears are, in fact they were just featured in one of the latest Nat Geo magazines.

Thanks! It was definitely exciting, the day had been almost a complete write-off, we were on our way back to town when we spotted this guy. It totally made the trip worthwhile, that's for sure!

Thanks very much! I'm going to have to try and find a copy of that National Geographic...

Excellent images! Would love to photograph one myself one day.

BTW it's Kermode. There is no "I" at the end.

Thanks very much. :) And actually it's either-or with the spelling, both Kermode and Kermodei are correct.

I looked and it was the August 2011 issue of Nat Geo. I liked your first shot better than the picture they had on the cover.

Looks so cute and cuddly, I think I want to take it over to my ex-wife to play with. Awesome shots. KUDOS.

Have plenty of Canons, enough ammo, enough to blow 'em to "L". Now, I just have to learn to aim.

Thanks everyone.

If you get a chance, I'd recommend reading the article on the Kermodei bear in National Geographic that Talaska mentioned, there's a lot of interesting information in it.
