Hi,
I don't know why but since yesterday my PC Windows XP (SP3) doesn't recognize my 400D. It compares a strange message DCP CONNECT and ask to install some sw. Why? Till some days ago I use EOS Utility for downloading the photos from camera withiut any issues.
Please help me in solving the problem.
Thanks in advance.
Francesco

The easiest solution is to start using a card reader.

It is not a solution it's an alternative, I have a card reader but I prefer to move photos directly from camera.

Plug your camera into a different USB port.

If that doesn't work (or you only have one port) try this:

Unplug your camera from the PC. In mY Computer go into Device Manager and under imaging devices you'll see DCP Connect (or maybe it'll say Canon Digital Rebel XTi). Either way right click and Uninstall it. Now plug your camera back into the USB port.

In theory, the drivers for the EOS camera are already installed and it should just say "Installing drivers" and the camera should connect properly again.

If you drivers got messed up, you may need the Canon CD to re-install the EOS drivers.

Hope this helps

"some sw"??? OK....

I suspect you mean "some software" - what kind of software? You haven't updated it by any chance, the 400D might not be supported by the newest version any more, check the compatibility list in this case.

Maybe post a screenshot of the error message - it might more sense that way.
(If I'd guess it is potentially the Visual C++ redistributable?)

Also, what has changed on the computer since it last worked?
(Oh, and why XP? That's dead :D yes, I don't like it any more, ignore this last bit)

DCP CONNECT is a pretty typical USB connectivity error probably caused by a patch or something Microsoft Update downloaded to the OS.

Easiest way it to de-install drivers and install them again.

BTW - I still have XP on my work PC - its what my employers support. And with all the latest patches, drivers, updates it still recognizes my 400D.
