I was in Banff area during last week and got the opportunity to take a few shots of Vermillion lakes.

Here are some of the better ones I was able to capture:

#1. About 20 minutes before sunset

#2. soon after previous shot

#3 Another image from the next day

I'm not sure of the best way to say this, but do the photos have a "plastic-y" look to them? I can't really put my finger on it, but there is something sorta fake looking about it, especially the large mountain in the middle. I notice it most in #2.

It could just be me making things up, I don't know.

Other than that ^^^, the photos are really great. Colors and composition. I'd love to have seen #1 in landscape orientation because I like the colors best in #1, but I like the frame orientation the best in #2/3.

Wow, if that reflection in #2 is real, that must have been the calmest water ever. It looks like you just copied the top half, and flipped it over... ;-)a I really like the warm tones in #1, and #3 is very nice as well. #2 is good as well, but as others have mentioned, the reflection is too perfect. It almost looks fake.

Paul, the reflection is completely real, the water in vermillion lake does get very calm in the evenings but is of course not ripple free. For #2 I used 3 stop ND grad to help even out brightness in sky and reflection and 4 stop ND filter to bring down the exposure time to somewhere between 20 or 30 seconds (don't recall exactly), which creates a very 'smooth' feel and helps reflections. Hope that explains the reflections in the shot. BTW long shutter speed also contributes to how clouds look in #2.

The processing was limited to adjusting tone curves and playing with clarity/vibrancy/sharpness - all in Lightroom.

Thanks again everyone for the comments :)
