Thanks !! I picked up a 24-70 that I've been waiting for. I was just about to buy a used one for the same price sans warranty. Hopefully it will be a couple years newer than the one I was going to buy.

Estimated Order Total: $2,179.91 with shipping and tax in California :(

so should i buy a used 5dm2 for $2-2,000 with somewhat of a warranty or buy a refurbished camera that had something wrong with it but fixed and only a 90 day warranty?

Just because it is a Refurb does in no way mean that the camera had a problem before..
I have purchased refurbs dozens of times and have not once been disappointed at all, or ever worried about my gear after the warranty is up.
Plus, Canon's warranties do NOT transfer(afaik), so even if you buy used, that means you have NONE. ;)
I prefer used, if the prices are fair...But, I do not buy refurbished direct from Canon..I usually use Adorama,etc..
just my two cents..

All refurbished units sold by Adorama Camera come with a 12-month return-to-Adorama warranty and are factory refurbished by the manufacturer, for example, Canon cameras are refurbished at their manufacturing plant in Newport News, VA.; the room that houses Canon’s entire refurb process is said to be completely dust-free, and with every employee working in there being required to wear special booties! The warranty we give covers anything the manufacturers warranty covers for a new unit, including shutter defects.

They will have been checked over by the manufacturer by hand, inspected very thoroughly, diagnosed, and calibrated by experienced technicians, and could therefore turn out to be more dependable than a new item - which will only have been checked by a process of systematic quality control protocol (ie by random sampling as it comes off the conveyor belt).

Refurbs can have simply been pulled from the production line if something appears faulty, or if they haven’t passed the final inspection. Most of the time it is a very minor issue that needs correcting, nevertheless, once it is pulled from the normal flow of production, it gets flagged as a refurbished model, so you may get a unit straight from the factory that has never been used. (I have one myself, and for sure it was factory-fresh!)

A refurb may also be an ex-store demo, possibly used in field tests or sales displays, or it may have been ordered in error and returned to the retailer (who can't then sell it as 'new' so it has to be sent back to the manufacturer for refurbishment).

I hope this helps, but you are most welcome to email me directly: elen@adorama.com (external link) if you need additional information or advice

+1 Hyper.

The only reason I would buy direct from Canon is the CLP 20% off. If that didn't existed (or if I were to buy a 5D Mk II) and Adorama had them in stock I'd definitely buy from them.

Well my 24-70 finally arrived. The lens looks brand new and has a date code of UZ. So far the test pics I've taken look pretty good but have to get them on the computer to really tell.

Got my refurb from another member here(avoiding tax as I'm in a taxable state for canon), but it had sub 300 as well. Refurbs are splendid.

I dont think that the majority of them have anything wrong. My 5DMKII came like new with only 64 clicks on it. I think a lot of them are pulled from the assembly line for quality tests and then packaged as used. 64 clicks ...
