I have the opportunity to trade my Canon 30D + Battery Grip + 2 Original Batteries and my 50mm f/1.4 for a Canon 28-70mm f/2.8 L that is almost new. Would it be a good trade?

If I traded I would end up with my 40D, 28mm f/2.8, 85mm f/1.8, 70-200mm f/4 L and the 28-70mm f/2.8 L

-Thanks for your advice

that depends whether you need a extra lens more or a extra body more. personally i dont' think it's worth it especially since you have a 28, 50, and 85. if the zoom fits your needs more then it might be a good option but i rather have 2 bodies and 3 primes than 1 body with 1 zoom.

Like new would be different from almost new, as I can guarantee its not almost new

I think that lens awas discontinued about ten years ago.

On eBay it looks like they sell for around $600.

So on the dollars, it is roughly an even up trade.

But, you will own something which would be costly to repair.

Keep in kind, canon won't be able to repair it if anything happened to the lens. It is discontinued and they have no parts for it.

I saw pictures of it, it doesn't look bad... I forgot to say that I would also get a 50mm 1.8 whit the trade, he said he bought it like two weeks ago.

here is a picture of the lens:
