Hey! I just started a new package and it includes the companion books or albums for the parents. I'm just curious what size should I give to them? The books I am doing for the brides are 10x10 flush mount. Should I give the parents a 10x10 or a little smaller, so they can sit on the coffee table etc. Thanks in advance!

I offer 8x8 and 10x10 for parent albums but most clients seem to think that 8x8 is sufficient.

Thanks. I didn't want to go to big. 8x8 does seem perfect!

I offer 8x8's, but I use Zookbinders end-to-end and the way they bundle pricing, 6x6's are what work out to be the best choice economically and they've been very popular.

My albums are usually 14x10, my companion albums are 7x5 copy albums done by Queensberry without any input from me. They're the same as the main album, but smaller. I offer an 8x8" parents album, with their choice of images, for about $1000.

Tim, so you like the non-square type albums better?
Just curious.

I ONLY offer vertical books. I hate squares and landscapes. Everyone has their preferences I guess.

As for parent books, I offer 6x8 or 8x12 as an upgrade.

Yeah it's totally personal taste. In this case I have taste, and Lloyd doesn't ;)

Did you get those damn kids off your lawn yet Lloyd? :p

With resepect to personal tastes, I'll say that I don't like vertical books. Even though they obviously are, they just don't seem as large and impressive to me. My personal choice is square. I like designing in it but mostly, I ilke it because you can make a great 2 page pano of a single image across two pages of some wide shots. I think those lose their impact in a vertical album. To use them in a landscape album, you're either taking too narrow a band of the image or your sharing the page with either another image and/or white space. In either case (IMO), this dilutes the visual impact of the pano.

That's funny. The exact reason I love vertical books is because of the two page spread panoramics. The books I use are 9.5x13. A two page spread is very close to the 3:2 aspect ratio of our cameras, so I barely have to crop anything out. When I shoot environmental wedding shots, I use the WHOLE frame. I find with square format panos @ 2:1 I have to chop out way too much of the photo. I either have to shoot the photo for the album and potentially compromise the image when viewed on its own, or vice versa. On a vertical book, if it looks great as an image on it's own then it looks great as a 2 page panoramic... i never have to shoot with the album in mind.

I liked square books because I can design a 12x12 (what I'm always pushing) but still give the B&G the option of ordering a 10x10 if they don't like it. My parent albums are 8x8.

This is exactly what I was thinking. I like square books because it is what I use - I am sure others are great as well, but I love the 2 page pano on the square albums too, but I didnt know that about your vertical album Lloyd.
