Pretty furious at the moment, but my portable storage, has decided to break. I tried copying some files from the CF to the drive, and didn't work. Tried again a bit later, and had another error. Now after turning it on again, to retrieve the files, I realised the 2nd attempt hadn't worked, so I took a look inside the pins.

It seems the bottom right pin is completely broken off, and the 2nd one along from bottom right, is bent nastily over. :(

No idea what to do now. Would anyone know if these are repairable? Or do I just use this as an MP3 player now. :(

I was just getting used to shooting RAWs all the time, and having as much space as I like. I've put my CF card in 85 times, as it records each folder number, and copied 80Gb of data since purchasing it first week of September.

You might be able to replace the header socket. On the other hand, you can save the drive and put it in another case. They all use the 2.5" laptop drive. Buy a case with no drive.

Thanks for the info.

I actually had a play around with it last night. Bit difficult to get down into it, so took a pin, and pushed one of the CF reader pins back up. The 49th one, and the 50th (last, bottom right, is still broken)

Tested a CF card, and it worked! I had a feeling perhaps the last pin may be irrelevant, and it was. Lucky I guess. I may unscrew it, and see what sort of plug it has, and see if I can put in any old CF card reader part into it.
