Guys and gals,

Does anyone have a service manual to the 200 1.8L EF lens? The focusing group which has been held in by a c-clip has failed. Lens is literally bouncing around all over the place. And yes, it happened during a shoot! It's about 20 years old so I definitely got some good usage out of the lens.

I have the lens mostly apart but there is a strange interlocking mechanism which prevents the inner barrel from coming out. Also have checked with H&K service in CA as well as a few others an nobody has the service manual.

I'm not looking for the parts manual, nor the user manual.

So, service manual for the 200 1.8 anybody?

Never mind guys and gals. Got the lens apart with no manual, just a highly different design than other L lenses that I'm used to. Talk about precision stuff!!!

Do you have made photos of the process, or a description how it could be opend?

Have lots of photos but am saving the writeup for my new website when it comes online in a few weeks.

All I can say is that the 200 1.8 is over engineered. And I know why they went with the c-clips rather than the lens rings that are found in the newer stuff. The c-clips are better for the lenses and the wider light cone of the 1.8, lens rings hold the lens more secure but will deform the lens.

What question did you have about the 200 1.8?

Oh I have no specific interest in the 200/1.8 mod - did not have this lens. But I am hunting for DIY repair descriptions for my Photo DIY Directory.
