Most seem to post their pictures of Yosemite valley with all the spectacular rock formations. Just to be different, I have posted a few snapshots from a couple of weeks ago that are up in the high country near the Tioga Pass side of Yosemite.

I actually try to avoid the valley if possible. I prefer the high country myself.

just spent a few nights up near Upper Young Lake last week on a little solo trip. I saw two people in three days. What a great weekend! The downside to many of the lakes is that they are enough off the trail that you want to spend the night there versus hike a couple hours in the dark...

Thanks for all the nice comments.

Mike, the locations are:
1. Lembert Dome. It has a fond place in my heart because it was the first dome I climbed when I first visited that side of Yosemite in 1954.
2. This is a little 'no name' pond in Dana Meadows, and I think that's Mt. Gibbs.
3. Dog Lake.
4. Elizabeth Lake, looking to the east. I was having so much fun taking pictures I forgot to get out the map and figure out the mountain. May be Mammoth Peak since it's off in that direction.
5 & 6 Both still at Elizabeth Lake, the last one looking at Unicorn Peak.

Nice scenes. Though there's some exposure issues. Photo 1 is under exposed a bit while photo 2, 3, and the last one have some very evident blown highlights in the clouds. Were you shooting RAW or just JPG?

Robert, you're right. I was shooting RAW, but it was hard to keep everything under control. There was a tremendous range from the sun-lit clouds to the trees in sunless areas. Sometimes I just didn't get the exposure right, and with some I just didn't do a good enough job at PP.

There were times when I was having so much fun I forgot to turn my brain back on.

One of my birthday presents was a Canon film scanner, so I have been trying it out on some of my old 35mm slides from the 'dark ages'. When in high school I went with our photography class to Yosemite. Below is a shot taken with an old Argus C3 on Kodachrome and scanned into digital. It was taken in 1955 from about the same location as the shot taken a few weeks ago of Lembert Dome posted above. There are more trees now, and they are bigger,... but the rock is still the same shape.
