Well, as of the end of last month the shuttle count won't be increasing any time soon...

Technically, the shuttle count hasn't been increased since 1991. ;)

No one here has the tact to correct those not using tack correctly.

Tacitly so?

I could say that no one here has avoided correcting those who misuse tacks whilst remaining tactful. In fact, sometimes tact requires withholding one's opinions...

...oops, I fell into it again, didn't I?

So I'll say this instead -

focussing, focussed

focusing, focused bw!

focus on the family

There could be focussing if the camera fails to focus...

I try not to let it bother me, especially if the poster is from a foreign country where they don't speak English - like the USA. It's not their fault so you've got to cut them some slack.

I know you put the "e" in there intentionally to show the misspelling, but please tell me you put the possessive apostrophe in there to show incorrect use as well. :D

For the same reason I put the "e" on lens. Both are wrong but very common.

Cheers, Oggy :)

Nice one.
Sharply observed, well focused arguement.
But perhaps not very tackful?

The internet has really made it apparent what a poor job our schools are doing...

I don't know, apparently they have turned a lot of you into people who crave perfection even when it is irrelevant and like correcting people (you know, like teachers). To bad you can't use your red pen on the internet.

I wasn't allowed to use a red pen when marking my student's work. The reason we were given was that red doesn't photocopy very well (which is rubbish - red photocopies almost as well as black if the photocopier uses green light). Later I found that the real reason was that use of a red pen may be psychologically damaging.

What, did they figure the lot of them were already psychologically damaged enough? Or did they want to 'protect' them till they got into the real world and got hit with all the bad that life can supply all at once with no previous 'innoculations' to help cope? You've gotta wonder what those who come up with some of this crap are thinking.

What age group did you teach? I had red pen from age 6 through college, and I am only moderately damaged.

Adults - anything from 18 to 82.
