I'm going out trick or treating this Monday w/ my friends, and i wanted to take some pictures w/ my G6 of the costumes. The one problem i have is that i don't have an external flash as of yet, and my wide angle lense blocks the flash. So what type of ISO and aperture values would work best in the dark?

As I see it, you have three choices.

1. Crank up the ISO and live with the noise. Use Av mode. Open the aperture to 2.0 and use a tripod or at least a monopod. Get Noise Ninja or Neat Image.

2. Leave the wide angle at home and use the weak on board flash for mediocre pix.

3. Run down and buy an external flash and take wonderful pictures that you will be proud to show the kid's peers when they are old enough to be embarassed. Will still be better with a tripod or monopod.

The G6 is no worse than most P&S cameras, but low light is it's weakest point. At least where the subject or camera is likely to move. Voice of experience here.

No, no, no. Pick #3. You will be glad you did.

The main thing is, don't practice on the night the results are important. Go out on a different night and try ISO 100, 200, and 400. See if you can stand 400. See the difference a tripod makes. You don't really need the wide lens. Try it wiht and without.
