I just saw the NIkon stock is up 10% in the previous few days, since they issued a press release saying a rumor about a mirrorless camera was false. Doesn't take much to get some excitement going it seems.

This thread has turned into a "I'm a photographer and I know what I want and I have it. And you're nothing but a gear head." thread. But like what tkbslc has said, this forum quickly becomes a fireworks display as soon as new gear is introduced. A lot of hypocrisy if you ask me.

Personally I would like to see Canon introduce something new for a change, take a little risk here and there. Other newer companies (in the camera industry at least) are doing pretty much that. Introducing some revolutionary (okay maybe a lot are just gimmickry) products left and right. I understand it's a lot more risk for the two bigs (CaNikon) but even Nikon seem to be in the game already (maybe not officially, but rumors can't be ignored anymore). But who knows, maybe Canon is preparing something big for us, or at least us "gead heads".

I wish camera makers were like car makers. A new model every year.

I guess the grass is always greener with rumored and announced new gear... I feel fortunate to be satisfied with what I have - which is a decent collection of budget-ish lenses and 2 great bodies: a 5D and a 40D. I'm not so sure that owning a 5DIII or 1DsIV would contribute to me taking any sort of better images. I guess I'm one of those people to own a 5DII when the next generation or the one after that is annouced :p

The Hasselblad 500C was introduced in 1957. By 2005 the 501CM had a few functional additions and improvements, but essentially was the same camera as when it was introduced 48 years prior.
It may have been a boring camera, but it was/is at the top of its class and is still a sought after camera.

Megapixels and high ISO are a digital photographers heroin. Once you have a little, you just want more and more. It doesn't stop until your bank account is run dry.

Yet... for some reason they didn't deem "L-white" an appropriate choice? tsk tsk Canon...

I too feel the Canon EF 200-400mm f/4 L IS USM Extender is lacking in any sort of innovation and is just the same thing as every other manufacturer is doing
  :p

I agree that Canon is boring. I couldn't care less if they update all their super teles or release a 200-400 as I will never buy one of these. I wish they would update the lenses that most consumers use and make them better, not just cheaper to manufacture. Slap USM on all those older non-USM lenses for example.

I also want mirrorless and/or APS-C size sensor in a PnS. Canon, answer me!

OK so you all want something different from Canon, well your wish will come true in October as this will be the release month of the
Canon X-MARK-I SLIM

It's brand new, and I don't recall any other manufacturer making a similar product.

It's a Mouse with a Calculator :)

It wasn't really. I do wonder why Canon hasn't done anything noteworthy this year. But you guys are acting so high and mighty.

Ah, that is much more clear. My guess is the tsunami caused some delays.

Canon also has more than just cameras to fund, and if they became happy with their lead over Nikon they may have slowed the pipe.

Then again, they do not have a vested interest in disrupting their own system with, say, 3D solutions or other innovative optics technology which would canibalize their own line.
