Yesterday was such a beautiful day outside so I took a trip up to Plum Island to see what was going on. Within 5 minutes of getting there I was rewarded to a great Heron sighting followed up by amazing looks at Egrets.

I'm one of those people who respects wildlife and won't over step my bounds. I stayed on the paved road and just watched as these Snowys got to within 15-20' of me. They didn't seem to be the least bit phased by my being there.

I've seen Egrets many times before, but yesterday's encounter was just incredible! These were all taken with an Xti using a 55-250mm lens (no IS used) and all were handheld. I hope you like them!

Thank you dgraham329 and kmunroe for taking the time to comment. It's appreciated. I don't consider myself a real birder, but I can't help but staring at these photos. I really am proud of myself on these! :)

These are excellent! As someone with some experience chasing egrets around with a nifty-two-fifty, I understand the limitations of that lens. You've got a couple of wall hangers there.

sandwedge, Thank you! I've actually been VERY impressed with this lens thus far. Of course this is only the 2nd or 3rd time I tried capturing birds with it. It really helped that the birds were pretty comfortable with me being there and got close enough too. I really love the contrast between the white bird and the background of fall colors. :)

Gator Stealth. Thanks! I'm still in awe over it. I don't get to go birding like this very often so when I do go and get shots like this I'm pretty much over the moon about it! LOL I also got some nice shots of some Great Egrets and a Great Blue Heron who caught a nice sized eel. Those pics, if you're interested, can be seen here....
