Actually, now that you put it that way, if I could rationalize a $10,000 lens past her then a $300 head would be no big deal - I'd be the Jedi master of rationalization. ;)

J.

EXACTLY! Gotta have the proper gear to USE your gear! And besides, would SHE want to see your $10000 lens on the floor broken due to using a cheap tilt mount when for a few hundred you could have had the right tool for the right job and that never would have happened?! lol See where Im going with this?

I bet they never complain when you come home with the Dewalt Tile cutter instead of the el cheapo harbor freight tools deal as long as it means youre going to start remodeling the bathroom! ha ha

If you're ever looking for a job in sales, come look me up.

Ha ha, I did retail sales for quite a few years through college and my father was a salesman most of his life. I was good at it but the problem was I was always selling retail electronics and I ended up convincing myself that I needed one of whatever it was I was selling and always ended up giving my paychecks right back! lol Sometimes I do miss that line of work and would have liked to try something more higher end, but now a days it would have to be some pretty large commissions to replace my current line of work and resulting income.

You just need to sell something that you can't or don't need to buy. I'm talking high end sales (OEM).

What?! You mean screw the lens onto a threaded stud?

J.

I think he meant this setup. Use the B2-Pro clamp instead of the QR .

That makes more sense. I'd still recommend the QR lever clamp over the screw clamp.

I have a Kirk LP-55 Lens Plate for my Canon 600mm f4 IS replacing Canon's lens foot. Wierdly and annoyingly, the Kirk lens plate doesnt have the full contact surface fit that I would have expected with another Kirk product, the Kirk Cobra gimbal head. It "just about" grips.

Hence before going too much further with a monopod head purchase, I have contacted RRS to ask if this foot would fit fully into the MH-01 LR: Monopod Head with B2 AS II. They replied that "Technically, there is a good chance that your Kirk lens plate will fit in our B2 AS II clamp. We cannot guarantee it"

Does anyone else have this lens foot and clamp combo to be able to confirm if the fit is nice and snug?

Thanks in advance

The difference is the machine tolerances and anodizing on the plates from other manufacturers. Once in a great while someone reports that one of the better plates don't fit in the QR lever clamps but the screw clamps should not be an issue. that would be even more rare. If it were me, I'd take a flyer on it fitting and if it didn't swap it out either for (a) the screw clamp or (b) an RRS or Wimberly plate. The QR clamp is worth having.

I hear you, but it's an expensive flyer to take, particularly needing to import it into the UK

I have the Kirk L plate and lens plate for the 70-200. Both fit my two rrs lever clamps well...

I see. Missed that.

Aren't you the guy that said money wasn't an object? :) If not, just get the RRS plate to go with it.

You'd probably be just fine. If not, either purchasing the new plate or going the safe route with a screw clamp would do it.

How are you set for plates in general? All Kirk, a mix, RRS? If it's for the foot on the lens, then I don't think the RRS plate is all that pricey.

Yep, it's just for the Kirk foot on the lens

Then I'd do one of the following:

1. Order the QR lever clamp and the RRS lens plate and sell the Kirk plate on ebay. This is the safe bet.

2. Order the QR lever clamp and try it with your kirk plate. If it works, you're good. If not, then order the RRS plate and sell the kirk plate on ebay (or not).
