It really depends whether she wants to use a prime, or a zoom. If she's the standard zoom type, the gf3 w/14-42mm pancake would be around half the width of the Nex+18-55. One is portable, one really isn't. oooooooooooooo I did not know that...damn 4/3 is confusing

With its hybrid touch interface, it was kind of confusing to get the hang of what was touch activated, and not. Some functions you'd touch, and then to select from within that menu you'd have to use the physical scroll button. Neither of them are that great--I'm a fan of digic menus. It's not worth factoring the interfaces into the equation. I'd say the Nex interface comes out on top, if only slightly.
