so i am considering buying the rokinon brand of this lens and i am ok with it being fully manual but i am wondering if the camera will still meter with this lens or am i going to have to completely guess with no meter in the VF to try and get a proper exposure.

the main question is even though this is a manual lens can i still meter with my 7D or will i be playing the guessing game everytime i use this lens

I've used fully manual lenses on my 7D and the metering works fine. Just use Av or M modes for normal metering where you select the aperture on the lens and the camera chooses a shutter speed. Tv is also possible if auto ISO is on since the camera can choose an ISO to balance the exposure after you choose a shutter speed and set the aperture on the lens. If the fisheye has dark corners you may need to use partial metering or negative exposure compensation as well. It won't be complicated once you get used to it.

I have used it with my T2i as macroimage describes. At the begining there is some guessing, but not what you think. Just play around with it and you will quickly catch on.
