Our side continues to do well this season advancing to 4-0-1. Here's a few from the last match, some at rather high ISO despite being daytime (we had some storms passing and light was scarce). No noise reduction done on any of these. Exif is there, feel free to crit.

1. 1250 ISO

2. 1250 ISO

3. 1600 ISO

4. 1600 ISO

5. I hate the no face shot but the fact that my son settled this wild ball was enough for me to keep it.

6. 2000 ISO

7. and 3200 ISO

8. more 3200..

The exposure and color look fantastic on those shots Scott. Hard to believe the iso settings and the clean look.

I know what you mean about the shot with your son, that seems to happen with me a lot and my son. But sometimes he makes the strangest faces.

Thanks Theron. I set contrast to zero on the RAW conversion but added a 12% soft light layer to each as a finishing step to punch the color and contrast. Seemed to give a better result.

What is it with shooting your kids (photos, I mean, lol!)? I swear he's the only kid I never get a good clean shot of on the pitch.

I really like 4 and 6. The timing is great! Serious question, do you shoot with both eyes open?

That's actually a very good question and one that you'll find arguments for and against depending on who you speak with. Personally, keeping both eyes open took some getting used to but I think its a habit worth practicing. I find that I follow the action so much better that way and it helps with timing a lot. I may close one right as I press the shutter (not sure why I do though) but generally, mine are both open all the time.

Hey, thanks for the quick answer. I asked because I tried this on Saturday and felt like I could follow the action much better, too. Still working on the timing, though. For me, it's tough getting the shot with the ball still in frame, especially with headers. I'm sure that will come with experience. Thanks again.

It will definitely come with practice. I almost never (as in, I can't recall the last time I did) shoot more than 2-3 frames in a "burst". There's rarely need to once you get your timing right. With headers, the key is firing that first frame BEFORE you think its time. It happens so fast that you'll never catch up with the action otherwise and you'll get great shots of guys jumping in the air with pained expressions and no ball in sight.

anytime, that's what this place is all about. I'll look forward to seeing what you think about it once you give it a shot.

this is an excellent set. i agree on the no face shot in #5 but i understand it being your son and all.

i am really becoming a big fan of your work on top of the great advice that you gave me recently helped me shoot the best game of soccer i have done so far a few days ago. keep posting these awesome shots!

not going to lie but the advice i used to shoot my recent game on sunday produced about 45 or so pictures that i was super happy with which was the first time i had that many that i really liked. usually i have like 50+ keepers but only really like maybe 1 or 2 of them. it also helps to be shooting with some better glass than what i have in my personal kit

Brian, thanks, that's very kind of you to say. I'm thrilled to hear you are nailing the shots you want and glad if I helped in any way. The main reason I post images (beyond hearing crit that helps me get better) is to hopefully create a way to share some advice as well. POTN helped me a ton in my early days of shooting sports and I hope I can give back a bit now.
