Im with you there. I got my wife an Acer one last year to do her college work on, and straight away had to get rid of about 20 things from the desktop. Did speed it up too. :)

Interesting age range on that one Chris

Voted, that was a very tough one, kept changing my mind. Got a top 5 but any given moment the order is different.

I figured most of the rubbish added Samsung, I checked what each programme did before deleting it with Google. I also got shot of Norton & all the stupid pop ups everytime you click something...

Before you go too much further, you may want to make a "system image" so that you can retore to PC if it fails. You can of course use the disk you were provided with but that will contain all the cr*p you just spent hours removing. Just go into Control Panel\Backup & Restore and follow the links for "Create A System Image". In the same place, create a "System Repair Disk" which helps with simple repairs or allows you to load up the system image you just created.

I'll have a look at that Jon and get it set-up..
Works much faster now tho and nothing I have removed is causing a problem. I made a point of finding out exactly what the programme did before removing it, 9 times out of 10 Windows had its own less complicated version anyway so who knows why Samsung had to add there own too?!

It's just fluff that PC manufacturers add to make people who are not so au fait with computers feel comfortable.

Netbooks come with an image of the recovery on the HD. Its a Bstard to get to though. I had to recover Vels Netbook after a virus, and it took a lot of googling to find how to get to it.

The point is though Wayne that that recovery method will put back all the stuff you just spent hours removing. The way I described to Matt gives you back your preffered setup :-)

By the way some really interesting voting in the SOTY this year, no clear leaders yet at all, pretty much everyone voting different. Shows what a great year everyone had :)

Definitely hard to decide! I've been staring at them off and on since the collage (which I love btw) went up but I'm getting there slowly.

At a glance I'd say Lee may need to make room for /2011 in his title, but it's still really early :)
