ive been thinking for a while now that im just not really getting any better with my photos, I cant really put my finger on it, ive kind of got, I think lax and worst at shooting this year which makes me think that maybe its not for me and I should just sort out a nice normal camera and just take nice pics of George enjoying his self and stop all this before I really start to invest in more camera stuff, which is never ending.. I don't know im probably being daft

Yes, you are being very daft (if you dont mind me saying that lol)

Just take a break, take some snapshots of George in the meantime and carry on when you feel you want to.

Biggest understatement of the year "not really getting any better with my photos".

Dont be a silly Billy lol

No way should you give up. Some of the photos you have posted this year have been astounding.
Maybe you should try and find a different angle to your photography, maybe take a break from it but I would definitely not give up.

Mate, in all seriousness, your images this year have been stunning. Consistently stunning.

And in 6 months time, you'll look at the photos taken on a "nice normal camera" and start thinking, if I had my 1D and that L lens, that would have been a much better photo.

its ok its not I need ego boosting or anything like that I just feel im not really getting anywhere lately, but im not really sure where I want to go, not that makes sense lol as for poor old George then I have taken thousands of pics of him, everytime we go up the park I seem to take camera and a couple of lens and now bloody PWs and a flash or two, its kind of getting silly when all he wants is his dad to kick a football with him (which of course I do) anyway im not going to just sell all my stuff on a whim, I will have a think about it though..

So get a P&S (S95,S100,G12) take that to the park, when you go out with George, and leave the lenses at home. Some P&S will even do RAW format!
So we can turn this around and get you buying new kit.;)

Easy, just don't take the camera on occasion. I went to the park with my nephew this week and it was fun not having a camera.

But don't sell, your wildlife photos are very much worth holding on to your gear, as good as many top wildlife toggers.

Got Charlie's results back today - bad news unfortunately. Seems his mouth lesion is an aggressive cancer tumour and so the vet says it won't be long before it gets into his lymphs and lungs ... So I have brought him home to spend some time with him whilst he seems to be ok ... But when he stops eating again I'll have to say goodbye to him. Vet isn't sure if it'll be days or weeks ... But probably no longer. So .. He's currently curled up in front of the fire and you wouldn't know anything was wrong with him! Will see how he goes over the next few days - the vet was impressed that I had managed to get him to put on over half a kilo in the last 10 days!! So I will keep feeding him up whilst I can!

Sorry to hear that Clare, looked like he was going to pull through aswel! :(

I can honestly say from the start of the year to the end your pictures have gotten better and better..
Who knows what you will pull out of the bag next year?! Your wildlife & marco images are just stunning!!
If you feel that way then why not concentrate on nice pics of the little one and then just dabble in the rest now and then, you'll soon get the bug back again.. ;)

...

I have really begun to enjoy some days out when I leave my gear at home. Sure I complain for the first ten minutes but then I forget about it. I was always pressuring myself to come home with a picture every time I went out the door that it just ticked me off and got me down for most of the year. I know the feeling, Mark.

It's very close at the top of the SOTY 2011. The top 7 people are separated by 6 points!

Go vote now if you haven't already.

just voted - my goodness that was difficult - there were at least 5 I wanted to vote for!

oh d'oh, just seen your explanation Mark. If you were a woman I'd suggest PMT  seriously though - don't sell any of it, just be a bit more laid back about it all. You have one great talent there - sometimes it just needs a rest though ;)
