just voted - my goodness that was difficult - there were at least 5 I wanted to vote for!
...

Indeed a very tough year this year. Lots of votes for lots of pics so far and a new leader atop the board :)

ive been thinking for a while now that im just not really getting any better with my photos, I cant really put my finger on it, ive kind of got, I think lax and worst at shooting this year which makes me think that maybe its not for me and I should just sort out a nice normal camera and just take nice pics of George enjoying his self and stop all this before I really start to invest in more camera stuff, which is never ending.. I don't know im probably being daft

Just sounds like you need a break to re-charge the batteries Mark. Sometimes you just have to put the camera down for a while, to get your inspiration back. ;)

Picked up some more RAM for my iMac today. My choices were:

apple.com = £320.00
crucial.com = £34.79

I wonder where I went?

Your macro and wildlife shots are outstanding and very inspiring, I blame Lee for making me buy a fisheye lens, and I blame you for making me want to buy a Macro lens :lol:.

I think sometimes you do hit a rutt with photography when you feel like its the same ol same with the shots you take. I`ve had this a few years ago and didnt even pick up a camera for a few months, but I like to challenge myself, so have recently been shooting everything with a Panasonic GX1 and I`m finding it alot of fun!! especially that I dont have to lug a 5D around with loads of beefy lenses.

Also why not set youself up a blog. You have alot of admiriers in your wildlife and Macro work and I think people would be interested to follow a blog. Also maybe challenge yourself to try different aspects of photography or maybe even start selling prints if your not doing so already?

I dont post alot in this forum, but I frequently have a read and there is alot of inspiring work on here that makes me want to get out and try different techniques.

I reckon someone hacked your account ... Your shots of the deer, of the reptiles with your macro lens etc ... All absolutely outstanding - as proven by your short listing in 2 competitions. Put the camera gear away for a couple of weeks ... Clear your head ... Then get back out there.

I know this has been discussed before but I need to renew my kit insurance (actually I am sure it has lapsed???) I am/was with AUA but always thought it the cover was maybe not adequate.

Basically looking for good cover including abroad and locked car but maybe also be "full theft" I think it is called. With option to add on semi pro cover (as I read it that should be PL & [Scratches head] something else non personal???) should I ever sell any output of my efforts ;)

Aaduki, ImagingInsurance & Photoguard seems to get good comments...............please remind me who do you guys 'n gals use???

TIA :)

@ Mark ~ +1 for take a breather, your macro & wildlife images are very aspirational. So no more talk about selling the kit as you will regret it one day!

If your mojo is suffering, pause............get a good P&S for those non dSLR days out because if what you are describing is the lack of joy in photography at the moment that gets all of us at different times & in differing ways. Even just slapping on a 50mm on the 5d to keep small in hand can be a good move.

Not sure about the semi-pro liability type cover but my household insurance covers me for home, car and abroad for very reasonable additions to normal policy. All equipment is named and covered. Might be worth a look.

Hi Chris

Thanks for the insight but I have read that household cover when dealing with "like for like" cover (also called new for old???) can be a minefield should the need arise to claim for specialist stuff like cameras e.g. theri view of like for like could be to offer a replacement based on the MP of the camera not the full spec i.e. a match for what you had lost?

FWIW when I made a claim some years back for white goods I was told what I could have i.e. they named the make & models but if I wished for cash to buy my choices it was 20% less than claimed value! Was not best pleased to be locked in to their supply channel arrangements :(

Mark, I know you just want to borrow the 300 again lol. Seriously buy my 400 that will make you think about what to shoot. I reckon sell up and holiday in the Bahamas, I'm thinking along those lines as well.

400 is being sold first then the macro and a few lighting odds and sods. Give us a shout if you fancy a day out as back home now.

Yeah that. I wasn't taking pictures anymore since August and feeling really down about photography (goes with the season too) but I bought myself a micro 4/3 Panasonic GF3 (external link) because it's very nearly P&S sized and yet you get to switch lenses and enjoy part of the advantages of a DSLR (better focusing speed, better low light performance, better bokeh, ...).

And while I still don't fancy taking my 7D with me, I've started shooting with my GF3 in Canary Wharf where I now work and really enjoying it: http://www.flickr.com …cameraobscuraphotography/ (external link)

And because it's a small camera which can live in my pocket with the 14mm pancake lens, I've also got pics of my daughter I normally wouldn't catch.

So considering a step back from "serious" DSLR photography and taking a break for a while or trying out a more "just for fun" focused approach with smaller gear sounds like a good suggestion to me.

Wendy
