It occurred to me that a list of plug ins might be a good idea. Though I know of some, I am sure that I don't know of all the good ones out there, and likewise, you probably don't either. BUT, you might know of one that I don't.

So let's help each other. Lets create a list of plug ins.

I'll start with the ones that I know.

Flaming Pear (external link)

Never tried them, but Flood looks interesting. It creates a lake in the foreground with actual reflections of your background. Have a nice landscape of beautiful snow capped mountains, but Highway 210 is in the foreground. Put a lake there instead and reflect those mountains in the water.

Designer Sextet looks interesting too, with some of the wave/ripple/zigzag tools.

Redfield PlugIns (external link)

Again, never tired them, but one that I know of. Much more on the creative/graphic design end than the photography end, but nonetheless, the Fractalius filter seems to be able to do some awesome effects. And the Sketch Master really looks cool if quick 'n' easy pencil sketches are your thing.

Tiffen DFX (external link)

OK, this one I actually have and use all the time. Current Version is 3.0. Tiffen is most known for glass filters (the kind you screw on to your lens), so much so that their software gets most undeservedly overlooked. In addition to the plain old filter emulations, there are film effects, cross processing, lighting effects, darkroom effects, and so on and so on, with literally thousands of adjustments via sliders. I would call it indispensable. On the website, click the "DFX Filters" tab for samples and take a look.

So, please, add to the list - especially if you use a product, then let us know what you think. But even if it only a product you know about, without hands on experience, post it here anyway, odds are someone will be able to share their experience with it.

Your turn...

Nik Software is pretty great and very popular.

OnOne Software and Nik are the only two plug-ins that I have on my machine. If you want to do other funky things to your images there is an endless list of providers out there but as far as adding good value to my post processing these two receive top marks from me.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Someone could probably make some coin from a Plug-in Wiki where they review and detail all the best ones available both paid and free.

I tried to start a plugin gallery here a while back but didn't get a response from anyone! I think it would be nice for people to show what the the plugins can do.

My favorites that I use most often are:

Imagenomic Portraiture (external link) Does a great job smoothing skin for portraits.

OnOne Photo Suite (external link) Very nice package of plugins, I especially like PhotoFrame (external link).

Alien Skin (external link), my favorite there isBokeh (external link)

In the absence of an overwhelming response, my suggestion would be for someone to build up a list in a blog, and, as it takes shape, to put a link in their sig. Of course that implies having a blog:)!

Otherwise, things get lost in the dust. Unless a thread is either made a sticky or is linked to in a sticky/thread, well, thread have a way of retreating into history:)!
