I use a Manfrotto 808RC4 head on my Manfrotto tripod. I shot my first college football game last Saturday, and no tripods were allowed, only monopods. I plan on shooting more games in the future, Would my 808RC4 head work on the monopod? If not, any Manfrotto suggestions? BTW, I plan on buying the Manfrotto 681B monopod. thanks, nick.

It would fit on top but not sure how easy it would be to use, may be a little overkill and cumbersome , I use one of these (external link)

They're OK

You would NOT want to use your 808RC4 on a monopod.

I use a Manfrotto 486RC2 ball head on my monopod so that I can set any angle I want between the camera and the shaft of the monopod. I recommend the 496RC2 for folks who use monopods with lenses that do not have tripod rings on them.

The problem you would have using the smaller ball heads is that you use the RC4 quick release system and the practical ball heads for monopod use have the RC2 QR system.

Have you ever tried the RC2 quick release system? The QR plate for the RC4 system is quite large and most folks cannot tolerate the overhang from the body when using the camera off the tripod. The RC2 QR plate, on the other hand, is sized such that it's not in the way for handheld use of the camera.
