I seem to be neglecting to think things all the way through. Before I stumbled upon P.O.T.N., I purchased a Slik Pro 700 DX tripod with included pan head. Since I knew load capacity would never be an issue with a G12, I figured I was set. Then I started learning about macro from you guys and added gear to learn how to shoot macro.

I ran into some difficulties getting the right angles with the Slik so I read a bit and found a few people on the forums who use Giottos tripods with the multi position center column, so I ordered a MTL 9360B with another pan head and I love it.

Now the problem. I think I would like to use an L bracket to go from landscape to portrait. I can't seem to determine if the Giottos is compatible with an RSS L bracket. I emailed both RSS and Giottos and the guy from RSS said he thought Giottos used an Arca Swiss compatible plate but he wasn't sure. I'm sure Giottos will get back to me as soon as they are in. The time difference makes it a two day project, usually.

So... the question.. is it worth having an L bracket for a G series camera? Do any of you use one?

thanks,

Kim

I use the L bracket frequently on the G12. You must realize that when you have the L bracket on the G12, you do not have full rotation of the LCD screen. My application has been for real estate, when I want to shoot an HDR photo, I first shoot it with the G12, since it has a built in HDR process and if I like the look, then I follow up with bracketed photos from the 7D. The ballhead clamp HAS to be arca swiss compatible. If it is anything else, it will not work.

I got a bottom bracket because I leave it on all the time and don't want to cripple the LCD screen.
I have to flip the ball head to the side to get portrait orientation.
The Kirk bottom bracket never stayed firmly in place until I put a piece of doublesided tape between it and the camera.
