I'm looking for a rubber lens hood that resembles the lens hood made specifically for the 50mm 1.4

Anyone happen to know if such a thing exists?

You'll have to experiment with "generic" rubber lens hoods.

I've used them in the past, but generally don't like them because they collapse and don't protect the lens nearly as well as a rigid plastic hood.

Figures. Looking for one I can walk around with the camera hanging out around waist level. I didn't want the lens hood putting pressure on the lens while walking around all the day long. Most of the rubber hoods available make me cringe, given their hideous nature.

Don't quite understand how a lens hood puts pressure on a lens. Hoods serve two purposes. They block unwanted light, reducing flare, and they act as front bumpers for your lens.

When something puts pressure on the hood it is transfered to the mounting point on the lens. If it was rubber this wouldn't happen. I figured this would be happening a lot walking around in a crowded area for hours.

Don't worry about it. Hoods are always attached to my lenses with no issues.

Yeah, mine have taken some serious abuse over time. Don't worry--if it hits anything really hard the hood will just pop off.

These are bad ideas. Very bad ideas.

The focus mechanism on the 50/1.4 has a reputation for being fragile and the front element moves while focusing.

These after market hoods attach directly to that front element which means the hood gets bumped then the force of that impact is going straight into the focus mechanism. Even worse, you are hanging a bunch of extra mass out on the end of the mechanism, mass that it was not designed to handle. Increased wear on internal components and an increased risk of something breaking internally.

The OEM hood does not attach to the front element, it attaches to the lens body. No additional strain is placed on the focus mechanism, the front element is completely isolated, and the force of any bumps to the hood are transferred to the lens body, not the internal mechanism.

For the Canon 50mm f/1.4, I will for sure put a good solid lens hood on to protect the AF mechanism. I personally think the Canon one is a bit expensive. So I went with the Ebay replica, works great and it is only $10.

And, further, if you take the time to reverse it for storage, the OEM hood (or a clone there-of) will also protect the focus ring from getting bumped while the lens is bouncing around in your camera bag. A rubber hood won't.
