I tried to search this one out, but came up looking at a bunch of threads about camera bags and camera straps.

What I am in need of is a reccommendation on a new bag strap. I retired my original LowePro strap a while back and replaced it with a Promaster branded Op/Tech-like strap. Within a little over a year, it has started to come apart to the point I don't trust it, and the updated version of the same Promaster strap won't fit around the loop on the bag.

I need something heavy duty; I've got a LowePro Magnum AW that carries 2 cameras (7D, 40D) with grip, 3 zooms, 3 primes, 2 "specialty" lenses (Lensbaby and Holga), 3 Speedlites, extra batteries for cameras and flashes, cleaning supplies, chargers, remotes, and the like. Needless to say, it carries a lot of weight, so I'd like to go another couple years on this strap if possible. :)

Thoughts/opinions?

Just a thought....UpStrap makes bag straps as well as camera straps. Looks like their limit is 10 lbs, and suspect your load is more (much more?) than that.
OpTech has an SOS (save our shoulder) strap that I've used with a lighter bag. (Think Tank UD40) It was recommended by a kind poster here.
Domke sells gripper straps for bags, though that might require some finishing or sewing.
Wonder why no one makes a sling strap for bags? Should say I haven't seen one...

Did the LowePro strap work for you? Perhaps replace the original...OpTech? Perhaps the POTN labelled straps sold here? The SOS strap is listed here, and priced right too.

When I was working at my business, I used a LowePro Magnum too. Same reason. It got really heavy! Roller bags weren't invented then (showing my age) but that's what I would want now. Plus a secure lock to keep other's fingers out of the bag at gigs.

Good luck! Please let us know what works.

It worked fairly well, I just haven't seen it for sale anywhere.

Adorama has been so helpful for me. Helen Oster posts here, and she works miracles!
I don't know my way around B&H so well...
I looked at the current Magnum offering on the LowePro site...just a sec. I'll go find a link.

Back again. Check out frame 10 if I remember correctly, here:

I thought my old Magnum was bigger than this. Maybe because it weighed so much! ;)
Best

Yea, the Magnum series underwent a redesign since I bought my bag, including that strap.

The problem is that I can't find anywhere to buy just that strap. :)

Confess...I looked at Adorama and B&H to no avail. Found it frustrating! Vistek is just down the road from me, and I'm used to their site. Perhaps you can take a skue number from Vistek and find the strap at Adorama or B&H, or any other site. Hope this helps.

Best,

Dave

Best,

Helps tons! I must have been sleeping/day dreaming/generally not paying attention to the days I was supposed to learn how to search on the internet; I keep finding things for camera bags, and camera straps, but not the bag straps, especially not that bag strap.

I'll see what I can find at Adorama; worst case scenario I'll pick it up from Vistek! :)

Bit the bullet and am going to give the Op/Tech SOS strap a go.

Thanks again for the help. :)

They sell them here, at the POTN Support Shop...link...

I use one on my UrbanDisguise40; transformed the bag. The pretty TT strap that came with it was awkward and uncomfortable. the SOS is much better; bag feels pounds lighter.

Best,

Dave

Can't beat Op-tech, great prices, great product, and great service.
