so im looking into the UWA/fisheye market for a nice really wide lens in the no more than $400 range. i am ok with full manual lenses and shoot mostly sports and event photos at my school. i am having trouble deciding and do not have the resources to rent or borrow. i want to save as much money as possible since it will not be my primary lens anyway, i shoot sports with my sigma 30 and 50 1.8 (basketball) and for all other sports i have a 70-200 2.8 mkII +1.4X extender

what i am considering so far:

rokinon 8mm fisheye
rokinon 14mm f2.8 (might not really be that wide on my crop so not top pick)
sigma 10-20 f4-5.6 *used if i can find one
canon 10-22 *used

are there any other lenses out there that i am missing within the $400 or less range?

I have the Rokinon - all manual, but a great little lens. Also sold under the Vivitar name, as well as another name or two I believe.

If you just want cheap/wide, the Zenitar is the lens. If you want to get the most for $400, the 10-20 is good, the Tamron 11-18 is a nice lens at f/8, but the Tokina 12-24 is probably the way to go.

whoa whats the zenitar, im looking that up now. i dont think i have come across that yet unless its the same rebrand of samyang like rokinon and others.

this is all i found for the zenitar: http://www.amazon.com …TF8&qid=1316089115&sr=1-2 (external link)

i wonder is 16mm is really going to be all that wide since im on a crop camera. hopefully someone randomly finds this thread and can give some feedback on the zenitar, thanks for the suggestion it is now being considered

i guess there arent many out there that can give feedback on any of the glass im looking at. i guess im leaning the most towards the rokinon 8mm fisheye right now since it offers the focal length i want at a very affordable price

Tokina 11-16 gets my vote... very wide, and as fast as an UWA comes. My only reservations are the horrible CA and bad flare-control(which could both impact a bright, outdoor sports shot).

16mm isn't very wide on a crop. Although shot on a FF, this should give you an idea of what 10-11mm could do on a crop

I would get the 10-22 and call it a day.

I was going to call you on posting the 10-22 in your list above. It's out of your price range even on the used market.

If you must know...
