Depends - do you want to have to take it off every time you need something? If not, get a bag. I keep 2 bodies, up to 7 lenses, 3 flashes, and assorted filters, cards and batteries in a Domke F1-X, or 2 bodies 4 lenses, flash, filters, batteries and cards in the Domke F2. Largest lens is the 100-400 (about the same size) which fits in mounted on its side, or, sans lens hood, in a Domke single-pocket insert. The hood then goes around another lens in the bottom of the bag.

Look at the Lowepro Stealth Reporter 650 AW. I carry three large Canon lenses (16-35 f2.8 L, 24-70 f2.8 L, and the 70-200 f2.8 L IS - all with their hoods mounted) and a 20D body with the grip attachment, plus a meter, a flash, cleaning supplies, spare batteries and CF cards, etc., in mine. A small tripod could be strapped to the bottom (with supplied straps) and there is a space for a laptop (which I use for a grey card and a color reference card - both about 8-1/2 x 11 inches).

Only one case that does it for me: Lowepro Computrekker Plus AW. The only thing I've found big enough for all of the camera gear in my sig, other than the brackets, plus tons of batteries, my laptop, lots of cleaning stuff, books, extra whatevers, a pocket pc, a flashtrax, couple of pocket knives, etc. The list goes on and on!

Sounds like you already figured out what you're going to get, but I'll still mention I really like my 'Whickey and Cox' backpack from Crumpler. I bought it for hiking, biking, and travel. I am pretty sure I have seen a picture with a 70-200 (not sure if it was IS) attached to a camera sitting in the backpack.

I haven't had it for too long, but I recently used it for 4+ hours walking all around downtown Portland and it worked great. The backpack is extremely comfortable and honestly feels like you have nothing on your back. Reminded me of the backpack we used when our kids were little. Well-weighted and you didn't even know anything was on your back. I have tested it out with the widescreen laptop we have at work and it fits in very nicely.

You can only access the backpack from the back of the backpack, meaning you must take it off to open. A bit of a hassle, but well worth the tradeoff of feeling more secure.

I have all my gear in my Tamrac Expedition 7. It works great and easily holds my selection of lenses and bodies.

I would recommend the Kata R 102 or 103. They are well built and have great ergonomics.

There is no one bag that would work for all occasions. Trust me, I tried to find it. So far I have 4 bags/packs.
1. A smaller Lowepro toploader for when I want only the camrea for walk-about with 1 lens and some goodies.
2. A Lowepro Rover AW II (external link). An ok carry around bag but with a few accessiblilty drawbacks. For actual hiking (and I have had it in some relatively extreme conditions) it can't be beat for it's comfort and capacity.
3. An older wide carry-all bag. This one is great to work out of but a pain to carry for any distance. For working out of a vehicle it is perfect. This one will get phased out as it is of poor quality.
4. A Domke J-803 Satchel (external link) (on order, shipped last week). I bought this after hours of looking for the ultimate carry around a bunch of gear solution. I would not be able to carry all the gear I plan to get but would be able to pack all I would need for the occasion like going to the zoo, a wedding or tripping around town. Being a satchel it will size itself somewhat depending upon how much I load it. I will post a review once I have used it some.

I figure that once I get an arsenal of about 10 bags or so I should have it all covered. Or, will I?
